Good morning, friends, and Happy Friday! I hope its been a great week for you, and are excited to kickoff the weekend. Check out the photo below of the shelf cloud that pushed through ahead of the rain showers yesterday evening. Unfortunately, we’ll have cool, wet, and windy conditions before a sunny Easter Sunday.

Cool, Wet, and Windy Friday (Gross)

A low pressure system is passing through the region, which is bringing more rain showers. On top of that, cool temperatures and wind gusts will make for a gross April day.

Light to moderate scattered rain showers will be possible all day, as portrayed by the GFS below.

We can expect to see between a quarter of an inch and a half of an inch of rain through the remainder of today. According to the Kentucky Mesonet, we have received 0.10 inches of rain since midnight.

Temperatures are also below average for this time of year, thanks to the passing cold front. We have already reached our max temperature for today, as temperatures should slightly sink into the 40s through this afternoon. Our max temperature was 60ºF, and occurred just after midnight last night. Currently (6:30 AM), the temperature is 51ºF.

In addition to a cool, rainy day, winds will also be strong out of the northwest at 10-15 mph. This is helping drive temperatures down. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph will also be possible.

Temperatures will continue to drop through the evening hours. Low temperatures tonight should be around 40ºF. Overall, just a nasty April day.

Daytime rainfall amounts will be much lighter, adding up between a tenth of an inch and a quarter of an inch of rain. In addition to the rain, strong winds will once again be blowing out of the northwest at 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.

Temperatures should remain in the 40s for most of the day, but could reach the 50ºF mark later in the afternoon on Saturday. Overnight, temperatures will drop back down into the low 40s as skies begin to dry and clear out.

Beautiful Sun Returns for Easter

Conditions will change on Sunday as high pressure moves in. Sunshine will return, along with normal temperatures, making for a perfect day for Easter Egg hunts and family time.

High temperatures will hit the low 70s, along with much calmer winds out of the southwest. Overnight, skies will remain mostly clear, with low temperatures dipping into the low 50s.

More Sunshine to Start the New Week

High pressure will stick around for Monday, making for a great start to the new work week. Sunny skies will allow temperatures to soar to the upper 70s. After all the rainfall, Monday will make for a great day to cut the lawn. I know…thinking about how fast the grass is growing scares me too.

A few clouds will enter the area during the evening, and skies will be partly cloudy overnight. We’ll end our Monday with low temperatures dipping into the mid 50s overnight.

That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Friday and rest of the weekend! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter/Instagram, only on @wxornotBG.
