Autumnal Equinox Feels More Like Summer Solstice

wxornotBG 9/22/17: First day of fall means…SUMMER weather!

The Headlines

Well, I was hoping by the time that fall started, we’d actually get some fall-like weather. So much for that.

Yes, another hot forecast is on the way so strap in.

The Details

So, we’re still sitting under a large ridge of high pressure that’s keeping (most of) the rain at bay.

Approximate location of the dominating high pressure. (Weather Prediction Center)

And there’s not a whole lot of air moving under that big ol’ dome, so we’re stuck with conditions that feel more like June 22 vs. September 22. We’ll also have a shot at some patchy fog this morning thanks to all that moisture that’s sticking around with us. But that’ll do nothing to help take the edge off the heat.

And since that high’s not going anywhere anytime soon, this is gonna be a pretty consistent forecast. Highs stay in the upper-80s while lows at night barely drop below 70º. Summer, please go away.

Today: Patchy fog this morning will give way to a hot and muggy afternoon under mostly sunny skies. We’ll top out around 88º. Under mostly clear skies tonight, we’ll only drop back to a low of around 68º.

  • Wake up: 🌫🌤 65°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 83°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 87°
  • Evening time: 🌤 79°

And the same deal for your Saturday.

Headed to The Houch for tomorrow’s WKU game? You’re gonna want to do plenty of this. (Giphy)

Yep, same old high pressure, same old hot weather. But it’s not just the heat though, it’s the humidity as well and we’ve got plenty of it as dew points are settling in the mid-60s to near 70º. Those are pretty humid readings more suited for summer than late September.

What the Hi-Res NAM thinks the dew points will be a little bit after kickoff tomorrow night. Ugh. (Pivotal Weather)

Nothing else to say other than wear some light, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water if you’re tailgating and/or heading out to the game tomorrow night.

🔴⚪️🏈Tomorrow🏈⚪️🔴: Another hot and muggy one on tap, with temperatures soaring to around 87º and we can’t rule out an isolated shower or storm. Scattered clouds stick with us into the overnight while we only fall back to a low near 65º.

  • Wake up: 🌤 67°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 82°
  • Tailgating: 🌤 86°
  • Kickoff: 🌤 80°

Summer continues on Sunday.

Make it stop. (Giphy)

You know the drill. Hot, sultry, altogether unpleasant for September readings continue as we wrap up this weekend. I know it’s late September, but you might want to just stay inside, watch some football and keep that A/C going.

Sunday: The pattern continues with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures. A high around 86º once again looks likely. Overnight lows under mostly clear skies tend to remain in the mid-to-upper-60s.

  • Wake up: 🌤 68°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 83°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 85°
  • Evening time: 🌤 75°

Plus, a sneak preview into next week shows more of the same to start off the first full week of fall. Come on, Mother Nature. This is just unfair.

The Bottomline

  • Patchy dense fog possible out the door this morning.
  • Summer continues to hang around as it remains warm and muggy.
  • Autumn begins at 3:02pm today.
  • Other than some patchy fog tomorrow morning, the weekend looks identical to today, with sky-high (for fall) temps and mostly sunny skies)

That just about does it for me! Thanks for checking into wxornotBG this morning, and be sure to follow @wxornotBG and @WKUweather on Twitter and like Landon Hampton on Facebook for the latest on the weather throughout the day. Have a terrific Friday!
