Summer-like Forecast

Heat, humidity, and a few showers and thunderstorms are all in the forecast for today. making for a steamy summer-like day across South Central Kentucky.

This morning it’s already 70 degrees with dewpoints in the high 60s, making for a warm and muggy start to the day. As we progress throughout today, the heat will crank up as our high temperatures top out in the upper 80s and potentially pressing that 90 degree mark. Not to mention, winds from the south help to bring us plenty of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico making those heat indexes rise.

Notice that the dewpoint values are in the 70s and the winds are from the South a steamy combination.

As dewpoints values start pressing the 70s, along with today’s expected sunshine and heat it is vital to be drinking plenty of water! Staying hydrated and wearing plenty of sunscreen on days like today is important if you will be spending time outdoors.

With the heat today, some may see an isolated, pop up shower or thunderstorm starting after about 3pm thanks to the available moisture and daytime heating providing some instability this afternoon. It won’t be a complete wash out by any means and not everyone will see rain, just some torrential downpours likely accompanied by some thunder and lightning.

For tomorrow, we’ll see a similar story to today, another hot and humid day pressing the 90 degree mark. Along with the heat we’ll see the return of the isolated showers and thunderstorms by the afternoon hours. It’s starting to feel a lot like summer!

By Wednesday, our shower chances will grow more widespread and organized as a weak passing front will help to add a center of focus for shower and thunderstorm development. It’s something we will keep an eye on and keep you posted on here at WxorNot!
