Heat and Humidity Continue, With Storms Increasing

wxornotBG 6/13/17: Summertime pattern rolls on!

Well, folks, it is now officially summer. Now that we have nearly unbearable heat and humidity present, we can finally consider it summer. I mean, I can barely get into my car to go anywhere at this point. My steering wheel is too hot in the afternoon, and the rest of my car is just too hot in general.

Oh well. I guess I will deal with the sweating. Typically, this is the time of year in which I think about how much I love the cold and winter, but I’m not so sure I am on that boat anymore. It isn’t that I prefer it being very hot outside, its just that I don’t really want it to be cold again. So with that in mind, I will start the discussion!

The weather over the next few days looks to be more of the same. You’ve seen this before and so have I. We get into these summertime patterns and it seems like it takes forever to break out of them. We are in one of those stretches right now, but some hope is on the horizon.

Today and tomorrow look much like yesterday. We look to still be largely under the influence of a fairly strong ridge of high pressure, and it will continue to keep us hot and humid. Just for reference, it is about 7 am and our temperature is 74°F, with a dewpoint of 73°F.

Look for that level of humidity to continue, with temps rising into the 90s the next couple days. Additionally, there will be routine isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon both today and tomorrow. Nothing too significant, but they’ll likely be present.

Thursday looks a bit different. There looks to be just as much heat and humidity present, but an organized, albeit weak, disturbance will propagate into the region. This will offer larger scale lift, favorable for scattered thunderstorms by the afternoon.

A weak shortwave (the dotted line) will approach, and should create storms across the region. h/t COD Weather

These storms may pose an isolated severe wind/hail risk, and for that, the SPC has us placed in a Marginal Risk for Thursday.
