Discussion
This forecast is somewhat interesting, but again, the best stuff for forecasting lies just beyond this three day timespan. I mean, after the front moves through on Monday, everything looks to get a bit cold.
Really, the only major weather impacts that are needed to be talked about within this forecast discussion are the affects of the rain system looking to make its way towards us tomorrow afternoon and evening. Before that, today will feature fairly bland weather. Anticipate mostly sunny skies becoming partly sunny by this afternoon, with temps remaining cool.
By tomorrow, a shortwave trough will have made its way into the upper Midwestern states. This should force a surface low that is likely to track through Iowa and into southern Wisconsin, advecting warmer air into the region for the day on Sunday. That will be combated by showers throughout the day, though. Additionally, it is looking fairly breezy across the region tomorrow afternoon and into the overnight hours, so hold onto those hats!
By tomorrow night, the cold front looks to have approached, and our heaviest rain of the event looks to get going from late Sunday evening through early Monday morning. Many should see rainfall totals between 0.5″ and 1″, which will be great considering the ongoing drought.
By Monday morning, the front will advance eastward, taking the heaviest precip with it, and ushering in another cold airmass by Tuesday morning. Beyond that, it looks downright cold. Another unseasonably cool airmass will move in through the end of the week, with much of the region potentially looking at temps of 15°F below average.
Today’s Key Points
- Cold today; warm up tomorrow and Monday
- Rainfall expected by Sunday afternoon and evening
- Rain totals anticipated in the 0.5″-1″ range
- Cold air ushers in for the rest of the week by Tuesday morning
