Forecast Discussion

Three words sum up this forecast: Relief is coming.

The upper level ridge that has be plaguing the region with heat will begin to move to the west. This will place a large trough across the eastern United States, placing our region in northwest flow.

Disturbances embedded in this northwest flow will cause almost daily storm chances across the region. This is similar to the series of storms we had a few weeks ago, perhaps just not as strong.

With Precipitable Water values remaining high, thunderstorms during the week will contain very heavy rainfall. Diurnal heating will cause robust instability to occur as well, leading to some strong downdrafts capable of strong winds.

Storms are expected to be most widespread on Tuesday, when a frontal boundary will sag close to Bowling Green. This, and residual outlfows from prior thunderstorms will serve as the focus for new thunderstorm development. Again, no severe weather is expected at this time, but some strong storms are possible.

Extended Outlook
