Discussion

Due to the placement of that upper-level ridge, we are now in a northwest flow. The movement of this ridge will allow for the placement of a broad surface trough across the region. This trough looks to move in by tonight and stall out over the region until mid-week, increasing our rain chances.

Disturbances associated with this northwest flow will cause storm chances to be prevalent over the next several days. Precipitable Water values are high, meaning that these thunderstorms will carry very heavy rainfall with them. Instability values will also be high from diurnal heating, which could allow for some very strong winds associated with these storms.

As the frontal boundary moves closer to the Bowling Green area Tuesday, more widespread coverage of storms is expected. The main threats for all of these storms, not just the ones on Tuesday, will be heavy rainfall and strong winds. As of right now, there is no need to worry about severe weather potential, but stay updated with the blog in the case of new information.

As far as temperatures go, today will be another hot and muggy one, with heat index temperatures around 100 degrees! Tuesday and Wednesday look to be a little cooler as we experience more cloud cover and showers and storms.

Extended Outlook

According to the Climate Prediction Center 8-14 Day outlook, we can expect both above average temperatures and precipitation across the region. I know I keep saying this, but it just doesn’t look like the heat is going to die down anytime soon, so make sure to stay hydrated and be smart about outdoor activities!
