Rollercoaster of a Pattern Coming Up

Real Time BG Radar:

Today: Mostly sunny and breezy, with highs around 71ºF. Tonight: Increasing clouds, with lows around 50ºF.

Ahh, the flip side of a high pressure system. How fun!

It is crazy that just a couple days ago, we were seeing snow showers across parts of the region, with temps in the 30s. Today, though? Not like that at all. First of all, we will be having a ridge extend and get centered across our region as we move on through the day.

In response to this, strong warm air advection in the lower levels and at the surface will begin to affect the region. On the surface, the tightening pressure gradient between a developing low and strong high over the central and eastern United States. This will drive temperatures way up above what the models are showing, and I think into the lower 70s by the afternoon hours.

This will be underneath mostly cloudy skies, and with surface flow from the southwest, temps will continue to rise. Overnight, increasing clouds and southwesterly flow should keep the lows up, only falling to around 50ºF.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, with highs around 67ºF. Wed. night: Rain/storms late. Lows falling only to around 57ºF.

Another day, another coaster.

This pattern has been very up and down as of late, and that doesn’t look to stop here. A deep shortwave trough will be propagating through the central plains, and will be firmly establishing the BG region within the warm sector.

Warm air advection will continue to reign over our region, at least for tomorrow. This will continue to keep temps elevated, despite cloud cover, with highs getting up into the upper 60s.

Overnight, we will see the low pressure propagate towards the region, dragging with it precipitation chances later in the night. Lows will fall down into the upper 50s.

Thursday: Cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs around 61ºF. Thur. night: Gradual clearing, with lows falling to around 30°F

Thursday blues comes back with more rainfall coming into the region in association with the low pressure system previously discussed. Look for the day to start off with temps in the lower 60s with showers/isolated thundershowers and clouds.

As the cold front passes through the region, cold air will filter into the region in associated with stronger cold air advection. Highs will be in the lower 60s, and will then plummet into the mid and upper 30s by evening time. Overnight, look for gradual clearing with lows falling to around 30ºF.
