Today will actually be the warmest day of the forecast period (now through Tuesday), before an Arctic front sweeps in and brings chilling temperatures for the start of the workweek.

Highs will hit the mid-30s today before the front begins to move through the area this afternoon. Its passing will bring gusty winds and the possibility for a few flurries.

The main impact of this front, however, is not precipitation chances but rather the large temperature change. Strong winds from the northwest will allow much colder temperatures to seep into Bowling Green as high pressure builds behind the front. Temperatures tonight will drop into the low teens tonight… Brrr.

Monday, 1/18 – Sunny & COLD- High 22˚ / Monday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 10˚

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is going to be COLD. Temperatures will start out in the low teens Monday morning (wind chills below 0°), with highs only reaching the low 20s. Northwest flow and high pressure at the surface will be influencing the infiltration of this Arctic – cold, dry – air.

Be sure to bundle up if you’re heading out Monday, because while it will be sunny, it definitely will not feel warm out there! Lows will drop back into the lower teens and possibly single digits overnight on Monday. If it didn’t feel like winter before, it sure will start feeling like winter now.

Tuesday, 1/19 – Mostly Sunny –27˚ / Tuesday Night – Snow Chance Late – Low 22˚

After another chilly morning, temperatures will creep a few degrees warmer than those on Monday. Ridging in the upper-atmosphere will allow highs to reach the mid to upper-20s (heat wave, I know) by Tuesday afternoon.

The next system of interest will come back into play on Wednesday, bringing with it rain and snow chances for our area. A possibility for snow exists late Tuesday night, with greater chances beginning Wednesday. More details on this system will be covered in future blog posts.
