Wednesday Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today, 8/5 – Mostly Cloudy; Showers & Storms High 88˚ / Tonight – Showers & Storms – Low 73˚

**Flash Flood Watch for all of south central Kentucky from 12PM today thru 1AM Friday**

Good Wednesday morning! It sure has been a hot couple of days – yesterday, the Kentucky Mesonet recorded a high of 96° for Bowling Green! The changing of months has done nothing to stop the heat. However, temperatures look like they’ll dip below normal as storms impact Bowling Green today and tomorrow.

A shortwave in the upper-atmosphere will allow for the formation of widespread thunderstorms today, as moisture values increase. While some scattered activity is possible early on, the storms really kick up later this afternoon and evening. Temperatures should stay below the 90° mark due to mostly cloudy skies and the onset of rain.

Showers and storms will continue for most of the overnight hours with temperatures dropping into the low 70s.

Thursday, 8/6 – Showers & Storms – High 84˚ / Thursday Night – Rain Ending; Mostly Cloudy – Low 69˚

Thursday looks to be a great day to sit inside and read a book – that is, if you have that luxury. Rain chances will continue from Wednesday night right into the morning commute Thursday. Reason this is so? The infamous shortwave in the upper-atmosphere and an associated low at the surface tracking slowly over our area.

Showers and storms will stick around for the bulk of the day, decreasing after dinner time. Due to storms training over the same area, heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding is possible. Currently, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the entire viewing area from this afternoon through late Thursday night.

For people like my mother, who would like her plants to be watered, this rainfall is welcomed with open arms. Others, however, who are trying to get in a few last outdoor plans for the summer – not so much. The system will finally push off Thursday evening, taking most of the rainfall with it. A few scattered showers and storms remain possible overnight, with temperatures around 70° for the low.

Friday 8/7 – Clouds Decreasing – High 85˚ / Friday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 68˚

Friday looks to be a nice break from the rain, with clouds decreasing as the day progresses. Temperatures will remain in the mid-80s for Friday before increasing to around 90° for the weekend due to upper-level ridging. With Warren County students heading back to school next week, the weekend looks like it will offer a nice last taste of summer!
