Stormy Bowling Green Weather

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 8/4 – Partly Cloudy; Isolated Storms – High 93° / Tonight – Isolated Showers – Low 74°

A stationary boundary is noted just north of the region today. The high resolution models show this boundary wobbling very slowly to the south today. South of the boundary, southerly winds are forecast, while northerly winds will accompany conditions north of the boundary. This will bring the high to around 93° today. I know, not great, but also…

With the convergence along the stationary front, lift should be sufficient for the possibility of a few isolated showers and thunderstorms across the region. Not everyone will see rain in their backyard, but a couple storms aren’t out of the question.

Storms should weaken to mostly showers through the evening and overnight. There’s still a lingering possibility of a rogue shower or two during the overnight as well. Lows will be around 74°.

Wednesday 8/5 – Scattered Thunderstorms – High 91° / Wed Night – Scattered Storms – Low 73°

The aforementioned stationary boundary will be pushed south with the help of any thunderstorms that form today. It’s beginning to look like the boundary may be sitting on top of Bowling Green on Wednesday for much of the day. This should lead to partly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid 90s, depending on your location relative to the boundary.

A relatively strong short wave trough located to the west of the region will lead to divergence aloft across much of western Kentucky. This will enhance the lift along the boundary, causing for more widespread thunderstorm development. Due to weak flow aloft, severe storms aren’t a particular concern, however strong storms may be possible.

Scattered thunderstorms will continue in the overnight as thunderstorm complexes continue to move in from the west. Lows will be around 73°.

Thursday 8/6 – Scattered Thunderstorms – High 86° / Thur Night – Isolated Showers – Low 71°

Scattered thunderstorms will continue to be a possibility on Thursday as the shortwave trough strengthens and organizes over the Bowling Green area. Additional organization of the thunderstorms could be brought on by better flow aloft. A couple of large thunderstorm clusters may be possible on Thursday. Again, a few storms may be strong.

The shortwave will move to the east of the region on Thursday night, leaving only isolated showers in its wake. Lows will drop into the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Given the nature of the thunderstorms forecast, isolated flash flooding may be a concern moving forward for those places the receive a few rounds of thunderstorms. Flash flooding, in the event that it occurs, should remain pretty localized. Just thought it would be a wise side note.

That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG for the latest Bowling Green weather updates. Have a great day!
