It’s been another warm and slightly muggier day for our Wednesday as afternoon highs have soared into the upper 80’s to right around 90 degrees. Moisture will continue to increase over the next couple of days as a frontal boundary slides southward through the Commonwealth this evening.

Shower and storm chances for the remainder of this afternoon and evening seem slight at best due to mid-level capping. Although chances for storms are slim, we’ll continue to hang onto an isolated pop shower or storm as the front slides southward through tonight. Otherwise, look for mostly cloudy skies and mid lows in the upper 60’s.

Thu – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Storms – High 87º / Thu Night – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Showers – Low 69º

The aforementioned front will continue its southward decent into the Volunteer state by Thursday. The passage doesn’t mean cooler temperatures this time. Afternoon highs will remain warm as thermometers reach the upper 80’s in Bowling Green.

Look for mostly cloudy skies for much of the day as another shortwave passes through the region. This will spark more thunderstorm development through the afternoon and evening hours. With any storms we see Thursday, none are expected to reach severe limits. However, heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning will be primary threats. Overnight lows will be mild with temperatures in the upper 60’s.

Fri – Mostly Cloudy; Thunderstorms Likely – High 85º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy, Sct’d Storms – Low 67º

A weak area of low pressure will gather some steam Thursday night and move eastward across the Ozarks. This feature will work across southern Kentucky through Friday bringing solid rainfall chances. With this approaching area of low pressure and its associated warm front, highs will remain warm as temperatures climb into the upper 80’s Friday afternoon despite the cloudy skies.

The latest model guidance continues to show a very moist atmosphere with precipitable water values climbing near 2.0”. With plenty of lift from the front, moisture and instability, showers and storms should have no problem developing. This is great news as our area is in desperate need of some rainfall. Much like Thursday, any development is not expected to reach severe criteria. However, with high precipitable water values, locally heavy rain will be our primary concern. And that folks…..is a good news.

Showers and storms will continue through Friday night as rainfall totals tally up nice for the Bowling Green area. Precipitation models continue to hint towards an inch or so of rainfall through Saturday morning. Overnight temperatures will be warm with lows in the upper 70’s.
