PGA Championship Weather Concerns

The PGA championship kicks off early tomorrow and golfers will be playing at Valhalla, located in Louisville, Ky. Unfortunately, it looks like there could be some delays during any of the rounds as rain is in the forecast. It only takes one lightning strike to cause a delay, and with thunderstorms in the forecast there could be some problems.

Players have been seeing pleasant weather during the practice rounds this week and this is much calmer than the last time the PGA came to town in 2008. During the Ryder Cup, the remnants of Hurricane Ike brought high winds that caused major damage across the city just days before the event started.

Thunderstorms are forecast in Louisville over the next four days, with the best chance of rain on Friday. The WPC has placed Louisville in a slight risk for excessive rainfall valid from 8pm Thursday through 8pm Friday:

A PGA meteorologist will be working alongside meteorologists from the National Weather Service to forecast during the event. Hopefully things remain relatively dry in Louisville throughout the rest of the week so that golfers and fans do not see any delays.
