Friday Afternoon Update

This Afternoon – Mostly Cloudy, BREEZY – High 65˚ / Tonight – Clear – Low 36˚

3pm 59˚ ~ 6pm 54˚ ~ 9pm 49˚ ~ 12am 44˚ ~ 3am 40˚ ~ 6am 36˚

**Wind Advisory in effect for the entire area until 7pm today.**

Good afternoon, all of the rain from this morning has moved off to the east with the associated cold front. Gusty westerly winds behind the front will help to usher in colder air today. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for all of southern Kentucky until 7pm tonight. Winds of 10-20 mph will be common with gusts up to 40 mph this afternoon.

Dogs almost blown away.

We have already reached our high temperature for the afternoon, and temperatures will continue to slowly fall for the rest of the day. Winds will die down to around 5-10 mph by tonight and temperatures will fall into the middle to upper 30s under mostly clear skies.

Sat – Sunny & Mild – High 58˚ / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 36˚

On Saturday, an area of surface high pressure will keep our skies clear. A nice day looks to shape up even with temperatures running slightly below normal with highs in the upper 50s. Clear skies will continue into Saturday night with lows dropping into the 30s for the second night in a row.

Sun – Partly Cloudy, Iso’d PM Showers – High 66˚ / Sun Night – Showers Likely – Low 50˚

On Sunday, the area of high pressure will shift to the east as an area of low pressure develops to our south in the gulf. This area of low pressure will move northeast and bring our next chance for a soaking rain by Sunday night.

Temperatures will be a little warmer than on Saturday with highs in the middle 60s. Skies will start off clear, but clouds will fill in during the afternoon as the area of low pressure gets closer. A few showers are possible by late Sunday afternoon, but most of the rain will hold off until Sunday night until Monday.

Showers and a few thunderstorms will be pretty widespread Sunday night, but the severe threat looks low due to a lack of instability. The main concern with our next storm will be another chance at seeing another inch or so of rainfall by Monday. Many rivers and streams around the area will already be running high this weekend as a result of the rain we received this week. Here’s a look at the Green River which is under a flood warning at Woodbury:

We will be monitoring Sunday night’s rainfall potential, as it could mean more high water for our rivers and streams. April is off to a wet start, and it will be interesting to see if the pattern stays that way over the next few weeks.

Next week looks to begin with a few rain chances and below normal temperatures, but things should start warming up later in the week. That’s all I have for this afternoon, for more frequent updates throughout the weekend be sure to check out @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on Twitter. Enjoy the rest of your Friday afternoon.
