Bats Battle Extreme Heat

While a large portion of the country suffered through a bitter cold snap earlier this week, a completely different story was evolving across the northwest coast of Australia.  Temperature values rose as high as 122˚F in certain locations, causing some rather odd events to unfold.

The image above was taken at a Bat Clinic in Queensland, Australia.  It shows baby bats being treated for heat-stress create by the major heatwave.  It was reported by many media outlets that tens of thousands of bats fell from above, losing their lives from the extreme weather.  Bats weren’t the only species of wildlife impacted, as several Kangaroos were also reported to have collapsed as a result from the unbearable heat.
