A Nice Sunny Sunday

Another great day to get outside… just don’t do it like this!

Today 1/12 – Sunny – High 54˚ / Tonight – Increasing Clouds – Low 41˚

6am 33˚ ~ 9am 37˚ ~ 12pm 49˚ ~ 3pm 54˚ ~ 6pm 46˚ ~ 9pm 45˚

Just think, this time last week we were talking about the ice age… glad that’s over. Today will be a sunny Sunday thanks to a high pressure system located over the mid-south. Temperatures will again be nice as well, running 5 -10 degrees above average and thus rising into the low to mid 50s this afternoon. Again, the warmer temperatures are all thanks to the return flow around the high pressure system. The southerly winds will be transporting the warmer temperatures into our area.

Moisture will be on the increase thanks to the return flow as well. Increased moisture combined with a disturbance moving our direction will cause an increase in clouds overnight, especially after midnight. The clouds and southerly winds will help keep temperatures warmer tonight as we will only reach a low in the low 40s.

Mon – Scat’d Showers – High 55˚ / Mon Night – Clearing Skies – Low 32˚

This aforementioned disturbance will bring in more than just clouds by Monday as scattered light rain showers are expected to begin during the morning hours. The day will by no means be a wash out. In fact, total rainfall on the day at this time appears to only be around .50-1″ in most areas. It appears the best chances for showers (and increased rainfall) will be to the south and east. Meanwhile, breezy southwest winds will keep temperatures warm with a high in the mid 50s… that should make a rainy Monday a little better right?

The NAM model of simulated reflectivity valid for noon Monday indicates the steadier and heavier rain stays to our south and east.

Showers should come to an end during the early evening hours as the system pushes east. This should allow for skies to become clear overnight. A wave of cooler and drier air will move in behind the system which along with the clear skies should result in temperatures returning to the low 30s for lows.

Tues – AM Sun/PM Clouds, Chance of Wintry Mix – High 53˚/ Tues Night – Chance of Wintry Mix – Low 27˚

Tuesday should start off with sunny skies with temperatures expected to again warm into the low to mid 50s by early afternoon. Yet another disturbance will approach by Tuesday afternoon however, which will bring in more cloud cover. This system will be a quick mover which will only glance us as it moves to our north over the Ohio River Valley/Great Lakes Regions.

At this time, it appears as though the system could squeeze out just enough moisture as far south as south-central Kentucky to create some very light precipitation. Despite temperatures well above freezing to start, the dry column of air could allow for rain to become mixed with and possibly transition to some wintry precipitation during the late afternoon/evening. I’ll spare the details for now because, for one, the verdict remains out on weather or not BG will see anything at all (did you catch the pun?). Certainly we’ll watch and keep you updated as we draw closer.

That is it for now. We’ll take another look at our early week precipitation chances in the afternoon update. Until then keep up to date with the latest by following @Wx_Or_Not on twitter. Thanks for reading… have a great Sunday!
