Saturday Update

Sunny & breezy looks to be the weather story for today, friends, as southerly flow takes highs into the lower 60s. This will be in response to a tightening pressure gradient, thanks to high pressure to our east, and low pressure to our north. Overnight, a moisture-deprived cold front will pass west to east across our proximity, which will bring a reinforcing shot of cold air for our Sunday. Sunny skies will remain in the forecast tomorrow, however, temps will be limited to the mid 50s.

Now for what everyone wants to talk about…that frozen, white stuff that may fall from the sky next Tuesday. Models continue to be in somewhat disagreement on the exact placement of the precipitation. A weak clipper will dive southeast across our proximity, bringing with it the possibility of a few snow flakes/wintry mix.

I’m not expecting much out of this at the moment, as the latest data brings the precip in behind the front. Combine this with the fact that we are very early in the season (it’s quite the task to get such cold air to mix well with a saturated atmosphere), along with warm ground temps, and I think it will be difficult to get much of anything out of this across south central Kentucky. Those of you on the eastern side of the state stand a better opportunity at seeing accumulation. The GFS model provided is valid for snowfall through next Tuesday at 12pm. I’m sure the models will continue to flip flop, so stay tuned for updates.
