Friday Afternoon Update

nerd-celebrate
CONGRATS, everyone! We’ve made it to the weekend!

This Afternoon – Sunny & Nice – High 81 / Tonight – Clear – Low 58

4pm 81 {} 7pm 72 {} 10pm 65 {} 1am 60

All is calm and quiet across south central Kentucky, as an upper ridge continues to dominate our pattern.  Peaceful will remain the story through the remainder of today and tonight, with not much of anything going on.  Enjoy the weather tonight, high school football fans.  If you’re a little cool in nature, take a jacket to the game.

Sat – Partly Sunny, Slightly Warmer – High 83 / Sat Night – Increasing Clouds – Low 60

7am 60 {} 10am 74 {} 1pm 80 {} 4pm 83

Upper ridge will remain in place, keeping sunny skies around to start out our weekend.  Conditions for the WKU vs Navy game look to be great, with rays of sun accompanying temperatures in the upper 70s for kickoff.  Have a look at the upper ridge on the model below, which is valid for 1pm Saturday…nothing going on with that’s in place:

Saturday night,  a shortwave trough will begin to churn across the Great Lakes, causing the upper ridge to finally break down.  This will cause an increase in our cloud coverage, with the potential for a few showers to develop.

Sun – Scattered Showers & Storms – High 74 / Sun Night – Isolated Showers – Low 57

7am 60 {} 10am 66 {} 1pm 71 {} 4pm 74

The progress of the shortwave trough over the Great Lakes will cause a surface low to drag its affiliated cold front across the region, firing off chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms.  The NAM HiRes simulated radar model continues to bring the rain in early Sunday morning.  Have a look at the latest run, valid for 7am Sunday morning:

Rain will be possible at virtually any time throughout the last day of the weekend, with gradual clearing occurring Sunday night, as the cold front makes its way to our east.  The passing of this boundary will result in cool, sunny conditions for our region Monday – Wednesday.

Well, gang, that will do it for the work week.  I’ll be back tomorrow with an update regarding our rain chances for Sunday.  Everyone have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for relying on ~ Beech Tree Weather!
