Other than reports of light accumulations east of I-65, WABBLES was spared, unfortunately, from enjoying a true White Christmas. Although flying flurries/light snow will remain possible today, the real story will be the temperatures!
With single-digit wind chills early on set to be followed by real-time readings not escaping the mid 20s this afternoon, it’s going to be quite a frigid Christmas Day.
Furiously Flying Flurries
Wrap around moisture on the backside of an upper level low that brought us yesterday’s action will provide streaky, scattered snow showers today.
Little to no additional accumulation is expected, but with temp profiles well below freezing, slick spots, or even snow covered roads, will bring travel concerns. Please proceed with caution on the roadways.
It’s worth noting that the latest from our local NWS office includes an expansion of the Winter Weather Advisory to include only one county in our coverage area….Barren!
Outside of the scattered, light snow, conditions should be partly cloudy, with moments of sunshine a given. Remember, don’t let a glimpse of that big ball of fire deceive you, it’s going to be downright COLD!
Warming Up This Weekend
High pressure will jolt east out of Texas today, setting up shop across the deep south. As this occurs, clockwise flow around that high pressure will turn our winds out of the south.
Combined with rays of sunshine, a steady warming trend will occur. Saturday afternoon, highs should achieve the mid 40s, while Sunday sees thermometers jolt between the mid & upper 50s.
Ahhh…Kentucky weather. You gotta love it!
Next Rain Chances
A weak weather-maker will bring a little more than an increase in cloud cover, along with hit & miss light showers to the area Sunday night.
This will be followed by a much more potent disturbance come midweek, that’ll bring along likely rain chances to the entire region. Another jolt of colder air appears to arrive as we close in on the new year!
