Isolated Storm Chances Break up the Hot Pattern

Good morning, folks! I want to give a shout out to my friend Evan for holding the site down while everyone is out and about doing things.

The pattern has been boring and hot, but isolated storm chances break up the hot pattern this afternoon.

Hot, With Storm Chances Today

Y’all know how this works. We’re stuck underneath a pretty locked in, intense ridge, and have been for several days now. It has aided in one of the more active severe weather periods in a few years over the plains.

We haven’t had unbearable moisture just yet, so that is a major plus. That has also kept us from seeing much in the way of storms, though. That might change today!

A nice, slow moving mid-level disturbance is making its way towards the region this morning. Along with a weak surface front, this may fire up some storms in the region.

Models have been more consistent at showing storms to our north, but I can easily see a couple of storms making their way into our region. Because of higher instability in the region, a severe storm or two cannot be ruled out, either.

We are barely in a Marginal Risk (1/5), but those to our north are in a Slight Risk (2/5). h/t SPC

Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats. Highs this afternoon are still expected to jump up into the lower 90s.

Hot Temps Expected to Continue Into the Work Week

Monday and Tuesday both look to follow suit from the past few days.

The ridge looks to sit in place across the region, and while it looks to loosen its hold on the southeast by mid week, we’re still expecting hot temperatures.

With mostly sunny skies, highs both days should easily jump into the low and mid 90s. Partly cloudy skies will dominate, and there might be an isolated shower/storm, but don’t count on it.

So, be sure to stay cool and hydrated if you have outdoor activities. Otherwise, just know it’ll be a typical summer day.
