Forecast Discussion

Yes, the record player’s still broken. More hot weather is on tap for your Friday, though it will be a whole lot dryer.

First thing’s first, much of the area is under a Dense Fog Advisory until 8:00am. So, allow a little extra time on the roads this morning.

The region sits in between systems to round out the work week. This means that we’ll stay dry but continue to be hot an humid.

Another high around the 90º mark is in the cards this afternoon, along with humidity that could make it feel in the mid-90s. Just blech.

TodayDense Fog Advisory until 8:00 AM. Mostly sunny skies, high around 90º. Increasing clouds with the chance of a pop-up storm late at night. Low right around 70º.

  • Wake up: 🌤 72°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 85°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 91°
  • Evening time: 🌤 82°

Mostly the same for Saturday, but a greater chance of a pop-up storm during the afternoon. That’s thanks to a little shortwave trough moving through the area late in the afternoon. We’ve got the heat and humidity in place and that means…POP! go the thunderstorms.

These are going to be the same type of storms we’ve been dealing with for the past few days. They go up, dump a lot of rain in a short period of time, move approximately 2 houses down the block, then fall apart. There won’t be too many of them but they will be possible. Otherwise, hot weather continues…but with a bit of relief in site.

Won’t cover a lot of ground…but you’ll get soaked if you get under one. (Pivotal Weather)

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with the chance of an isolated storm or two in the afternoon, high near 92º outside of any storms. Clouds clear early before building back in late with a chance for more storms near daybreak. Low around 70º once again.

  • Wake up: 🌤 73°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 87°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤/⛈ 90°
  • Evening time: 🌤 80°

Notice those storms up in the plains Saturday afternoon? Those could become important as we begin to end the weekend.

Only the beginning of summer and I’m already sick of it. (Giphy)

A stronger system begins to move in, giving us an even better chance at storms on Sunday. We’ll have a bit more in the way of dynamics working in our favor to go along with the hot weather and the humidity, so the storms forced along the front could lead to a few strong storms for our day on Sunday. We’ve got a couple of days to watch model trends, but the idea now is a decaying storm cluster will approach from the northwest overnight that may lay down boundaries for storms to fire later in the day. We’ll just have to wait and see.

In fact, the SPC has included parts of the region in a slight risk for severe weather for the day on Sunday.

SPC’s Outlook for Sunday. (SPC)

Sunday: Mostly cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms possible both in the morning and again in the afternoon. High around 85º. Storms end late at night, with a low just a hair below the 70º mark.

  • Wake up: ⛈ 74°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤/⛈ 83°
  • Afternoon plans: ⛈ 84°
  • Evening time: ⛈ 76°

Today’s Key Points

  • Hot weather continues today but at least we stay dry.
  • More dry time than storms on Saturday but the possibility is still there.
  • A couple of strong storms possible as a cold front provides temporary relief on Sunday.
  • More than one wave of thunderstorms possible.

That just about does it for me! Thanks for checking into wxornotBG this morning, and be sure to follow @wxornotBG and @WKUweather on Twitter and like Landon Hampton on Facebook for the latest weather information throughout the day.
