Forecast Discussion

Good morning, everybody. Starting today and continuing through the weekend, it looks like we’re going to have some unsettled weather. However, if you remain weather aware, then there shouldn’t be any problem!

Overnight, storms have been firing to our north and near our neck of the woods, as well. Moving throughout the day, we should remain partly sunny and dry; however, storms look to initiate this afternoon, due to an upper-level disturbance and differential heating.

There is an upper-level ridge sitting over the southeast (i.e. why our weather has been so boring lately). Well, a trough is trying to move through this ridge, providing more upper-level support for these afternoon storms, thus increasing the chance for strong showers and thunderstorms. With dewpoints in the upper 60’s/lower 70’s, it’s definitely going to be another muggy day for us, so just keep that in mind if you’re outside today.

Once these storms initiate, they will take advantage of the increased atmospheric instability, potentially increasing the threat of strong thunderstorms across the area. Thus, the SPC has placed us in a marginal risk (level 1/5), with the higher risk of severe weather to our south. It looks like most of the storms will start during the early afternoon hours and will end by the late evening, not extending into the overnight hours for most places.

Starting on Friday, we’ll be on the back end of the upper-level trough in a more stable air mass, providing much calmer conditions for the end of the workweek. It’s still going to be hot and muggy out there, but at least there won’t be strong storms.

For our weekend, it looks like there is gonna be multiple weak upper-level disturbances moving through the region. Again, this will increase the strong/severe weather potential for the weekend. Saturday looks to be a bit messy with less organized storms; however, Sunday looks to have an environment suitable for stronger and more organized thunderstorms to move through the area. We will continue to monitor the severe threat for this weekend, so make sure to stay updated with the blog.
