Today – Hot & Humid; Afternoon Storms Likely – High 91° / Tonight – Isolated Storms – Low 73°

Our summer weather pattern looks to remain in place for the next several days across the region. The White Squirrel Weather NestCam depicts clear skies this morning with temperatures right around 70° this morning according to the Kentucky Mesonet.

With afternoon heating and partly cloudy skies, you can expect those temperatures to rise fairly quickly today. Highs will likely follow yesterday, topping out around 91°. As we approach the high temperature a few showers and thunderstorms may begin to pop up once again. Heavy rain and lightning will be the main threats, along with isolated strong wind gusts. The rain may be refreshing, but don’t be this guy.

Isolated thunderstorms may continue overnight as a large thunderstorm complex is expected to brush by the region either to the west or to the north. Models are split on where to place that as of now, but it’s something we’ll watch throughout the day. Lows will drop only into the low 70s.

Thursday – Scattered Strong Storms – High 87° / Thur Night – Isolated Showers – Low 68°

We’ll have a bit more upper level support on Thursday as a trough tries to move into the ridge that is parked over the southeast. This may lead to a better chance of strong to severe afternoon thunderstorms. Some model data suggest dew point temperatures will jump into the mid 70s on Thursday afternoon. This will not only make for a muggy day, but also yield high instability values.

With a highly unstable air mass in place across the region, I expect showers and thunderstorms to form during the midday hours and move south as large thunderstorm cluster. This is in line with what the Storm Prediction Center is calling for. As the system moves south, it should become better organized, leading to a higher severe threat just south of the region. However, this may be moved around in later forecasts.

With the heightened possibility of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, highs should top out in the upper 80s across the region, which is a couple degrees lower than the 90s we’ve become accustomed to. Isolated showers may continue overnight as lows drop into the upper 60s.

Friday – Partly Cloudy & Isolated Storms – High 90° / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 71°

We should be on the backside of the weak trough on Friday. This should lead to a subsiding air mass, which will help to clear us out some. I expect partly cloudy skies in the morning hours. This will once again lead to a hot and humid day as highs top out right around 90°.

Some models do indicate a subtle shortwave embedded within the departing trough. If this does end up happening, a few afternoon showers and storms may be possible. However, these storms should diminish after sunset, leaving us with partly cloudy skies overnight and a low around 71°.

That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @wxornotBG and @WKUweather for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Also check out Landon Hampton on Facebook for the latest Vlogs. Have a great day!
