Strong Storm Threat Tomorrow; Cooler Thereafter

Discussion

Hey folks! Happy Father’s Day Weekend. I hope that the weekend has started off well, and that you’ve got some fun stuff planned to celebrate the Dad’s in your life. My dad is currently in Scotland, so Happy early Father’s Day to him (I am also jealous because Scotland looks awesome).

This forecast is fairly interesting because each day will likely be a bit different from one another. Today is pretty much going to be like every other day from this past week.

It is looking hot and humid this afternoon, with temps likely topping out in the upper 80s (again), and dewpoints in the upper 60s. This has been stretch of weather that isn’t fun, but we have had isolated storms to hope for. Today won’t really be like that, in that we will be hard pressed to see a storm this afternoon.

The HRRR is anticipated hot temperatures in the upper 80s this afternoon. h/t pivotalweather.com

That shouldn’t be an issue tomorrow, however. A trough and associated surface cold front will be moving through the region during the afternoon hours. Ahead of this, temperatures will rise into the mid 80s, with dewpoints in the 70s. This will create an atmosphere with a lot of instability to work with. As a result, storms are expected.

Look for a line of storms to potentially develop along that cold front tomorrow afternoon. h/t pivotalweather.com

Because there will be enhanced winds in the mid levels during this timeframe, storms may be able to organize enough to pose a severe weather threat. The SPC has highlighted us in a Slight risk for tomorrow in light of this.

The trough will move through by Monday, and will place us within northwesterly flow. That is an exciting phrase to say, because temperatures will cool off and sunny skies will return. Expect clouds to be there Monday morning, but clearing should take place by the afternoon. Expect highs in the lower 80s.
