Hot and Muggy Weather

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar

Yesterday’s Weather

What a scorcher! It was just plain too hot for me yesterday. Not only was it hot outside, but the air conditioner wasn’t working properly at work, so it was hot and stuffy inside as well! Unfortunately, this heat doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Discussion

Before I jump into the forecast, the National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a Heat Advisory for the entire region until 7 pm on Saturday evening. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, and to take breaks during long stretches of outdoor activity.

If I had to pick one word to sum up this forecast, it would be hot! It is going to be very warm the next several days, due to an upper-level ridge dominating the weather over both the central and eastern portions of the US. Starting today and into the weekend, temperatures will be in the mid 90’s with dewpoints in the low to mid 70’s. These high temperatures combined with the high dewpoints will make the heat index (“feels like” temperature) to be near or above 100.

If you are outdoors, please be careful and be sure to take plenty of breaks during the day. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Also, be aware of how long you might be outside and the intensity of the activity, as heat exhaustion can happen very quickly! There is a heat advisory out until Saturday night at 7:00 pm, so please exercise caution if you must be outside.

Our rain chances return for the weekend, with a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some weather models have the rain chances starting Friday evening, while others have it starting on Saturday morning. If you go out Friday, I would bring an umbrella just in case, but hopefully you won’t have to use it!

Today, Friday, and Saturday all look very similar in regards to temperature and humidity. Highs will be in the mid 90’s across the region with dewpoints in the low to mid 70’s, causing the heat index to be over 100 degrees. Overnight lows for all three days will be in the mid to upper 70’s.

I can’t stress enough how careful you need to be over the next several days. It will be very hot and humid, so please drink water and stay as cool as you possibly can.

Extended Outlook

It looks as though a frontal boundary will drop down through the region at the beginning of the next work week, increasing our rain chances through the mid-week. Unfortunately, it still looks to be hot and very humid outside, continuing into the middle and possibly end of the next work week.
