You see that? Squint if you have to. It is a piece of toast. What does toast have to do with this forecast? Everything. Bowling Green is about to get real toasty over the next few days.

Today is the real beginning of the toasting. The ridge is well established across the central and eastern US, and is dominating our weather with heat and humidity.

This afternoon is looking to jump into the mid 90s, and that will be common over the next few days. Dewpoints look to be in the mid 70s, with the heat index rising into the mid and upper 100 degree values.

Overnight tonight, look for partly cloudy skies, with lows falling into the mid 70s.

Thursday and Friday look to be almost completely identical in nature, as the ridge takes over, and further flexes its muscles across the lower Ohio Valley, and upper Tennessee Valley. The models aren’t looking to move the ridge very much over the next few days.

I’ll be discussing them together again because of this! The ridge will lead to highs ending up in the mid, and possibly upper 90s both days, and with a dewpoints in the 70s both days, this combination will yield very high heat index values.

Because of this, as we have said for a few days now, being outdoors for long periods of time will be dangerous without adequate hydration and the opportunity for multiple breaks. Please be sure to have plenty of water when working outside or doing outdoor activities, and be mindful of the longevity of the work. Breaks will likely be needed over the next few days.

The conditions overnight for both days will include partly cloudy skies, and lows in the 70s.

Extended Outlook

The extended outlook is looking to continue being hot, as the ridge isn’t likely to move too much over the next week. This will likely create continued heat and humidity. Additionally, some of the models are pointing towards it breaking down after about a week or so, but we’ll have to see.
