Discussion
Well, it is looking to be intensely hot over the next few days. So, that kinda sucks.
I think we’ll miss out on the most intense heat, as we look to be on the eastern side of the ridge. Lets get into the details!
Today, as many of the next several days, today will be very hot and humid, and fairly sunny as well. There will be partly cloudy skies, and an isolated thunderstorm threat throughout the day, but nothing should be significant across the region.
Highs this afternoon are looking to jump into the low to mid 90s across the region, and with dewpoints in the 70s, afternoon the afternoon heat index will end up nearing 100°F across the region.
Take precaution if you have plans outdoors this afternoon. Overnight tonight, look for partly cloudy skies, with lows in the mid 70.
Tomorrow and Thursday look very similar to each other. There will be an isolated storm threat on both days, but because we’ll be on the eastern side of the ridge, we will still be feeling the effects of the heat pretty strongly.
Highs on both Wednesday and Thursday will end up in the mid 90s, and both will see oppressive heat. Dewpoints on both of these days will end up being in the mid and upper 70s, creating afternoon heat index values well into the 100s.
These are the kind of days that are concerning to meteorologists. Heat is one of the overlooked issues within the field, and is a silent killer. The heat we are looking at from now through the weekend is dangerous, and its absolutely something you should be mindful of. If you have outdoor plans, try to limit the time spent outside, and be sure to drink plenty of fluids, as this will help to avoid heat stroke/heat exhaustion.
Extended Outlook
Beyond Thursday, we are likely to see the most intense heat of the period. The ridge is expected to make a more significant more eastward, and reestablish across our region. This will place us underneath the strongest portion of the ridge, allowing temps to get fairly high.
I expect that there will be a large contingency of people saying, “Oh, I heard it will hit 100°F Friday!” Don’t believe them. Because of how much rain we have had recently, temperatures will stay lower than they would otherwise, and highs shouldn’t exceed the upper 90s.
