A Warm Up is On the Way

Today – Sunny, Cold – High 27° / Tonight – Clear – Low 10°

For those of you just rolling out of bed, you may just want to hop back under the covers and bundle up. Many temperatures across the region are below zero once again!

Rays of sunshine will join light southerly winds today, which will result in afternoon highs topping out in the mid to upper 20s.  It’s probably better off you just stay in bed…

I know, it’s getting old!  The good news is, with plenty of sun, we should see some of the snow pack give way.  This will obviously lead to improved road conditions.

Saturday – Sunny – High 44° / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 25°

We begin to see a warm up come Saturday, as southerly flow really begins to take hold across south central Kentucky. Temperatures will creep back up to the lower 40˚ under mostly sunny skies, making things quite pleasant relative to the past few days.

Not ideal conditions for all the snowmen in the yards around town…

I’m looking at you, Olaf.

We will have one concern to deal with Saturday morning. Given the setup with clear skies, light winds and a snowpack on the ground, dense fog looks very plausible over the region.  Please be aware of visibility issues if you’re traveling late Friday night into early Saturday morning.

Sunday– Partly Sunny – High 48° / Sun Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 30°

Our warming trend looks to continue well into our Sunday. We’ll approach 50 degrees during the afternoon, which is MUCH more seasonable for this time of year.

I think it’s safe to say this snow isn’t sticking around nearly as long as the last one. The NAM model below shows the warm air moving back into the region, which is valid for 3pm Sunday afternoon.

All of this is thanks to high pressure scooting east of the region, who’s clockwise rotation will keep southerly winds in tact across the viewing area.

That will wrap up the Friday morning forecast post.  Remember to stay in touch with @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWx on twitter for the latest real-time weather info.  We’ll be back this afternoon with a fresh update on the weather this weekend.  Thanks for reading, and have a great end to the work week!
