Light Snow Possible For Bowling Green Weather

Real Time Bowling Green Weather:

Today 2/14 – Isolated Snow Showers; Windy – High 43° / Tonight – Partly Cloudy; Cold – Low

Such a lovely Valentine’s Day is on tap for the region…NOT. Well, the temperature won’t be too bad early, thanks to southwest flow at the surface. Things will go downhill after a cold front moves through the region around lunch time.

Conditions look rather windy for much of the day. Wind speeds wll increase to ~20-25 mph through the day, with gusts as high as 40 mph possible, especially as the front moves through the region. Scattered rain/snow showers will be possible as this front moves through.  As a result, we could see reduced visibility, along with a few slick spots.

This will be a quick hitting system, with little (dusting to ~1″) to no accumulation expected.  The timing of the heaviest rain/snow in our area will be between 11am – 3pm.  The HRRR model below, valid for 2pm, illustrates a broken band of mixed precip sliding through south central Kentucky:

Tonight will bring very cold air to the region; lows will dip to the single digits! Add in a northerly win of 5 to 10 mph, and we’ll have wind chill values just below 0°.

Sunday 2/15 – Cold; PM Snow Likely – High 23° / Sun Night – Isolated Snow Showers – Low 15°

Sunday will bring an interesting weather setup to the region. Mid to low level forcing look adequate enough to produce afternoon snow showers. At the time of this forecast writing, it looks like some of the snow may be moderate at times, leading to reduced visibility and perhaps some minor accumulations.

With that being said, amounts are still uncertain at this time. According to the Weather Prediction Center, the greater Bowling Green area stands around a 70-80% chance of at least 1″ of snow during this time.

Afternoon “highs” will only top out around 23° so be sure to dress in a few layers if you’re venturing out. Again, the snow should develop some time in the afternoon. This will likely become better known in the next forecast update.

Sunday night will bring a diminishing to the snow showers, however a few snow showers will remain possible through midnight. Lows will be around 15°.

Monday 2/16 – Partly Cloudy – High 32° / Mon Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 19°

Monday looks like a fairly nice day across the region. High pressure will still supply us with a light northern flow across the region at the surface, but sunshine will make an appearance. Partly cloudy skies seem likely with a high around 32°. I wish it could be warmer too…
