Wednesday Morning Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today 2/4 – Mostly Sunny; Increasing Clouds – High 52º / Tonight – Rain & Snow Showers Likely – Low 21º

Good Wednesday morning, Bowling Green! After a cold start to the week, the warming trend we experienced yesterday will continue today, allowing temperatures to reach into the low 50s by the afternoon. Mostly sunny skies and winds from the southwest will bring some pretty nice weather conditions to Bowling Green to celebrate the middle of the week.

These warm temperatures will not last long, so soak them up while you can. Clouds will be on the increase later today, as a cold front makes its way into our area.  This is expected to occur around 5-7pm this evening. As this boundary plows southeast across south central Kentucky, much colder air will filter in from the northwest, with lows dropping into the low 20s, as northwest winds of 10-15 mph filter cold air into the region.

Along with colder temperatures, this front also brings the potential for the s-word… Snow. A transition from rain to snow is expected tonight, with only minor accumulations possible. The precipitation chance is definitely there, but the amount of moisture is lacking for substantial accumulations.

With the cold temperatures, however, whatever frozen precipitation falls tonight will stick. So be sure to exercise caution tomorrow during your morning commute! A dusting up to 1″ of accumulation is possible, if anything. The surface map below, valid for 6pm this evening, showcases the frozen precipitation following the passing of the cold front:

Again… Even though we won’t receive much, if any accumulation from this event, it’s important to travel with caution if you must get out and about.  With temperatures in the low 20s late tonight into tomorrow morning, slick spots will be inevitable.

Thursday 2/5- Snow Ending; Clouds Clearing – High 31º / Thursday Night – Clear & Cold – Low 18º

Once the snow showers have moved through, clouds will clear out fairly early on Thursday, allowing sunny skies to dominate for the remainder of the day. Sunny skies definitely do not equate to warm weather, however, as temperatures will struggle to make it into the low 30s tomorrow. Winds from the north up to 10 mph will make the air outside feel quite chilly, similar to what conditions were like earlier this week.

As high pressure settles into the region, temperatures will continue to plummet for Thursday night with lows in the mid to upper-teens. Be sure to wrap up if you’re heading out tomorrow, as it will be a bitterly cold day. Although it may be winter, the average low temperature for Bowling Green during this time of year is in the upper-20s, not the upper-teens. Local climatology is making this weather feel like:

Friday 2/6 – Mostly Sunny – High 45º / Friday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 32º

As winds shift to the south, temperatures on Friday will begin to warm up once again. With the roller coaster ride of temperatures we’ve been on, highs look to reach the mid-40s under mostly sunny skies. Partly cloudy skies and southerly winds will allow lows to remain right around freezing Friday night (which just happened to be the high temperature the previous day… Weather.).

That’s all I’ve got for the Bowling Green Weather this morning! Landon will be by this afternoon with a fresh update on our potential snow tonight. Make sure to follow @WarrenCountyWX and @WxOrNotBG for the latest weather info. Have a great day!
