On Saturday the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers face off against the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers at 6 PM. So what type of weather can you expect for the big home football game? Let me break it down for you.

A cold front is currently working its way through the region. This will make temperatures and moisture values drop like a rock tonight and into tomorrow. You can say so long to those 80s we had been seeing over the past week.

High pressure will begin to build into the region on Saturday as the cold front continues to move to the east of the region. Much cooler temperatures will be felt across the region throughout the day. Cloudy skies during the morning will eventually lead to partly cloudy skies in the afternoon and evening hours. You can expect a high of only about 61° in Bowling Green. The wind will be quite strong across the region. Wind speeds will be around 10-15 mph, with gusts around 20-25 mph possible.

The good news is it doesn’t look like those wind speeds will stick around for kickoff. All the models show a decrease in wind speed at 6 PM. The bad news: it’s going to be quite chilly around kickoff, and just get colder throughout the game. At 6 PM, you can expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 55°. The wind should be out of the west around 10 mph. By the end of the game, temperatures will cool down significantly. At 10 PM you can expect partly cloudy skies with a temperatures around 44°. The wind should be out of the west southwest around 5 mph.

Bottom Line: Be sure to prepare for cooler weather during the game and during tailgating festivities. Overall the weather won’t be too bad for a Hilltopper victory, so be sure to pack L.T. Smith Stadium!
