Another Sunny, Cold Day

Here's to Thursday not slapping you in the face.
Here’s to Thursday not slapping ya in the face.

Today 2/27 – Sunny & Cold – High 36˚ / Tonight – Clear – Low 15˚

6am 20˚ ~ 9am 25˚ ~ 12pm 31˚ ~ 3pm 36˚ ~ 6pm 28˚ ~ 9pm 22˚

An approaching, moisture-starved cold front will help create southwesterly winds across our proximity today.  Outside of that, expect plenty of sunshine.  Tonight, same story…we’ll keep things clear, cold and quiet.  Here’s a look at how our current surface conditions are shaping up:

Surface Model Valid 6am

Fri – Partly Sunny – High 45˚ / Fri Night – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 33˚

High pressure will track southeast toward the east coast, keeping a mix of sun and clouds around throughout the start of our Friday.  Clockwise flow from the area of high pressure will churn southerly winds over the area, which will send temperatures rebounding into the mid 40s.

On Friday night, a shortwave disturbance will track across the northern tier of the Bluegrass, and bring scattered rain and snow showers along with it.

At this point in time, don’t count on any accumulation.  Temps look to hover just above freezing, preventing any gathering of the white stuff.  The NAM model below paints damp scenery for us by 9pm Friday:

NAM Precip Model Valid 9pm Fri

Sat – Iso’d Rain Showers – High 51˚ / Sat Night – Scat’d Rain Showers – Low 43˚

Surface trough will remain intact across the eastern US, keeping us under cloudy skies.  Light southerly winds should take temperatures into the lower 50s.  Make sure to soak in these readings, as they’ll be the warmest we see for some time.

A surface low is forecast to develop across the southern Plains on Sunday, which will then cut a path northeast across the Tennessee Valley.  This weather maker will churn plentiful moisture across our proximity, which will create widespread rain showers across south central Kentucky.

Things will get interesting on Sunday night, as colder temperatures provide the potential for us to see a wintry mix of precipitation, with a changeover to snow on Monday morning.  The good news is that recent trends have suggested that precip will stay as mostly rain through the bulk of this event.  We’ll continue to monitor it and keep you up to date.  Any slight shift in this system could mean drastic changes to the forecast.

That will wrap up the morning forecast.  As always, stay in touch with @WarrenCountyWx & @Wx_Or_Not for the latest in real-time weather information.  Have a great Thursday, and thanks for reading.
