Sunday Update

Today 12/20 – Scat’d Showers – High 49˚/ Tonight – Iso’d Wintry Mix – Low 23˚

9am 42˚ ~ 12pm 47˚ ~ 3pm 49˚ ~ 6pm 40˚ ~ 9pm 30˚

Disturbance that produced widespread rain showers last night and this morning is currently tracking northeast across the Tennessee Valley.  As this system pushes out of the area, we’ll experience a drying trend, as westerly winds of 10-15mph pester us.

If you check out the radar provided atop the page, you’ll notice the leftover moisture propagating out of our hair.  Clouds should break up to an extent as we dry out.

The vast majority of us should remain quiet through this afternoon and evening, before an approaching cold front makes things a bit more interesting tonight.  Depleted moisture tagging along with this boundary will coincide with plummeting temperatures to create the potential for a light, wintry mix of precipitation.  The following GFS model loop is valid from 6am this morning – 6am Monday.  This gives you a better illustration of what will be occurring in our atmosphere:

GFS precip loop valid 6am Sunday - 6am Monday
GFS precipitation loop valid 6am Sunday – 6am Monday

I’m not expecting the wintry precip to be widespread, but more isolated – scattered in nature.  With temperatures expected to fall into the lower 20s tonight, anything that falls will stick.  Travel carefully if you’re out late tonight into tomorrow morning.  Little to no accumulation is forecast to occur.

Mon – Partly Sunny, COLD – High 31˚ / Mon Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 18˚

Much colder air will advect in from the northwest, giving us MUCH colder conditions to kick off the work week.  High pressure will build in behind the cold front, producing northwesterly winds of 5-10mph.  This will result in a temperature difference of 20+ degrees between today and Monday.

Tues – Sunny – High 44˚ / Tues Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 25˚

More of the same, gang.  Southerly winds will help temperatures rebound into the mid 50s.  Other than that, high pressure will keep sunny, quiet conditions around.

That’s all I’m made of today, folks.  Have questions?  Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me @Wx_Or_Not.  Have a great Sunday, and thanks for reading.
