Rain Arrives Tonight

chillllllll

Today 12/28 – Increasing Clouds – High 56˚ / Tonight – Showers Likely – Low 37˚

9am 32˚ ~ 12pm 50˚ ~ 3pm 55˚ ~ 6pm 50˚ ~ 9pm 45˚

Low pressure will churn from Florida up the east coast as the day progresses, which will help advect moisture into the area from the southwest.  This will cause an increase in cloud coverage, followed by a precipitation shield that will arrive later tonight.  Moderate rains will be possible, however, severe weather is not expected.  Rainfall amounts could range from .25 – 1″.

Check out the simulated radar loop.  It’s valid from 6pm this evening – 1am Sunday morning in one hour increments:

Simulated radar model valid 6pm Saturday - 1am Sunday
SImulated radar loop valid 6pm Saturday – 1am Sunday

Sun – Scat’d AM Showers, BREEZY – High 48˚ / Sun Night – Iso’d Wintry Mix – Low 24˚

Precip shield will continue to pester south central Kentucky throughout the morning hours of our Sunday, with the cloud deck breaking up to an extent through the afternoon.

Another disturbance in the form of a cold front will dive southeast across our proximity Sunday evening/night, carrying plummeting temperatures, along with a bit of frozen precip along with it.  Expect northwest winds to climb between 10-20mph through this time.  The GFS precip model below shows this bleak line of precip advancing southeast at 12pm Sunday:

GFS precip model valid 12pm Sunday
GFS precip model valid 12pm Sunday

Latest data suggests moisture will remain rather light just ahead of this weather maker, however, anything that falls will stick to the surface, as temps tumble into the lower 20s.  Little to no accumulation is expected.  Travel carefully if you’re on the roads Sunday night into Monday morning.

Mon – Iso’d AM Wintry Mix, Partly Sunny – High 30˚ / Mon Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 16˚

We could see a few areas of freezing drizzle linger through the early morning hours of our Monday, however, high pressure will build in as the cold front passes to our east.  This will usher in much colder temperatures, as westerly winds of 10-15mph make themselves known.

That will wrap up the Saturday update.  Stay in touch with me at @Wx_Or_Not for any questions you may have.  Everyone have a great weekend, and thanks for reading.
