Scattered showers have pestered the region today, however, we should see precipitation expand in coverage as we get into tonight.  The NAM simulated radar loop is valid from 6pm  this evening – 6am Saturday in 3 hour increments.  Looks to be a little WET.  If you know a Noah, you might want to befriend him…quick.

Sat – Showers & Storms Likely (Potentially Severe), BREEZY – High 68˚ / Sat Night – Showers & Storms Likely (Potentially Severe) – Low 61˚

*Significant Weather Event Expected*

Saturday will be the point of focus for this weekend’s weather, as parameters in place will be capable of producing strong/severe thunderstorms.  Main threats with this system will be torrential rainfall that could lead to flooding (2-5″ of rain through Sunday), along with damaging winds and a few tornado spin ups.  I’m not saying your house will be hit with a monster twister…I’m saying be prepared for anything ZEUS may throw at us tomorrow.  Aside from storms, non-convective winds could top 30-40mph.  Tying down the inflatable xmas decor would be a swell idea.

The timing for heightened concern around here looks to be from 5pm – 10pm tomorrow evening, as a potent line of storms organizes ahead of the passing cold front.  Please stay up to date as this weather system evolves, as timing could alter.  The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded everyone in south central Kentucky to a 30% probability of seeing severe weather within 25 miles of any given location from 6am Saturday – 6am Sunday.  This convective outlook can be viewed below:

SPC Convective Outlook Saturday 12/21
SPC Severe Weather Probability 12/21/13

Sun – Scat’d Showers & Storms – High 58˚ / Sun Night – Cloudy – Low 29˚

Lingers showers and storms will taper off as we get into Sunday, keeping a cloudy, gloomy feel across the region.  Brisk, northwesterly winds will cause a sharp drop in temperatures throughout the day.  Be sure to get lay out the winter clothes, folks, our December heat wave is just about over.

That’s it for the time being.  I plan on being back sometime tomorrow to dissect our potential for inclement weather.  Have a question??  Get in touch with me @BeechTreeWx.  Have a great evening.
