For Pete (HEAT) Sakes

Good morning and happy Monday, folks!! Well for Pete sakes, the never-ending heat will continue this week.

High pressure continues to camp out over the southeast, circulating more heat and humidity into the Ohio River Valley region. This high-pressure will meander and wobble over the southeast during this week. The main feature associated with areas of high pressure is its counterclockwise rotation in the atmosphere. The counterclockwise rotation allows the winds to be mainly out of the south or southwest. This type of flow in the atmosphere allows heat and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico or Deep South to advect northward.

Today

Walking out the door this morning, you will experience clear skies with temperatures in the upper 60s. Doesn’t take long for those temperatures to rebound during the late morning to early afternoon hours, temperatures will top out in the middle 90s!! With high dew point temperatures in place over the WABBLES region, heat index values will hit the 100-degree mark.

A weak frontal boundary will sag southward towards the Ohio River Valley, this boundary will be the focus for some isolated showers and thunderstorms, very spotty in nature, during the afternoon hours. No need to cancel any outdoor activities!

Tuesday

Temperatures back off slightly on Tuesday, rising into the upper 80s with a few spots hitting the 90-degree mark. Tuesday will be a better day to plan those afternoon outdoor activities as skies over the area remain clear. Also, preseason ICE hockey begins on Tuesday, this might help you clear your minds from that heat!
