Showers and Storms Today, Cooler Temperatures Tomorrow

Howdy, folks! I hope your week has been great so far! The break from rain has been nice, but a quick return of the wet stuff is on the way. Expect showers and storms today, with cooler temperatures tomorrow.

Afternoon Showers and Storms

A cold front associated with a low pressure system is expected to track over the Ohio Valley. With that, there is the possibility of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

The HRRR model guidance indicated storms will begin to develop around lunchtime, and continue eastward. Showers and storms should be mostly east of the I-65 corridor, so our western counties may stay dry today.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather today. Similar to the models, the Marginal Risk is mostly east of I-65.

Skies should remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures reaching the neighborhood of 78º-80º. Showers may become more widespread by the overnight hours. Temperature overnight will be around 58º – 60º.

Cooler Temperatures for Thursday

Any overnight showers should be exiting by Thursday morning. High pressure will quickly follow after the passing of the cold front.

Skies will be mostly cloudy during the morning hours, but will gradually begin to clear up. We may see partly sunny skies by the afternoon hours.

Temperatures are going to be well below average for this time of year, but that’s nothing to complain about. Maximum temperatures will top out around 70º-73º.

Skies will be completely clear by the nighttime hours, perfect for stargazing. Temperatures will drop to a chilly 50ºF.

Quiet Weather Returns for Friday

High pressure will stick around for Friday as well. Plentiful sunshine will be a great way to end the work week.

Under these sunny skies, temperatures will be a bit warmer. With winds out of the south, expect high temperatures around 78º-80º. Even though it won’t be terribly hot, don’t forget to sunscreen if planning to be outside of extended periods of time.

By the evening hours, clouds will be increasing ahead of our next chances of showers and storms. Overnight temperatures will bottom out around 60ºF.

Weekend Outlook

Our next chance for showers and storms looks to arrive during the afternoon to evening hours on Saturday. The chance of showers and storms may stick around through the entire weekend, and into the start of next week.
