Cold air Incoming; Active Week Ahead

Fairly Nice Sunday

Good morning everyone! Hope we’re all doing well on this Sunday morning. We are starting out this morning with some high clouds remaining over our region.

At the surface, a bit of light fog has developed, but isn’t causing many issues. The clouds are quickly moving to the north and east as the system that brought us rain yesterday exits the region.

Once the sun comes out this afternoon, it’ll end up being a pretty nice afternoon. Highs look to get up into the mid 50s, and the sunshine will certainly be nice.

Cold air Starts the Work Week

Well, after this wonderful Sunday that we are forecast to have, the bottom drops to a winter reality and cold air moves back in.

A nice little weather system will approach the region from the northwest overnight tonight and tomorrow. This will bring clouds to the region by early Monday morning.

The two x’s are the disturbances that will bring the clouds and snow shower chances. h/t COD Weather

Clouds look to be largely stuck across the region throughout the day, holding temperatures to around 36°F-38°F for highs. The disturbance should also bring some flurries or light snow to the region.

We may see one shot at light snow in the morning, with another shot at light snow Monday evening. Accumulations are expected to be light. Despite this, if you find yourself in a snow shower, be sure to slow it down a bit while driving.

By Tuesday, the cold air mass has finally made its way into south central KY. Clouds look to move out of the region, but highs only look to reach the upper 30s, around 38°F.

The sunshine will make it feel better than it will be, though. And, just remember, about a week and a half ago we had temperatures around 8°F, so 38°F is a nice improvement!

Active Pattern Looks to Begin Late Week

This is going to be a long and active week. We are currently looking to get into quite the active pattern around here, as some large scale features flip. These will allow for an active pattern to potentially bring more wintry weather.

No need to panic! We have many days left to forecast this event. h/t giphy.com

The models have been consistent on showing some wintry shenanigans late this week, and the pattern looks favorable for it. At this time, there is the potential for impactful accumulating snowfall Thursday and Friday of this week.

There is no need to freak out right now, because it is simply a possibility. Details have to be ironed out, and it is way too early to begin talking about accumulations. We just wanted to give you a heads up so that we are all informed on the possibility.
