Stormy Tuesday on the Way

wxornotBG, 10/10/2017: Scattered showers and storms today give way to a cool down over the next couple of days.

The Headlines

We’ve dealt with some rain the past few days thanks to what was once Nate but after a break to start the new work week, a new system threatens wet (and at times) stormy weather.

Wait, not that kind of Stormy! (Giphy/Carolina Hurricanes)

The Details

We spent yesterday in a transition period between the wet and dreary remnants of Nate and the storm system that lies ahead of us for today. Partly cloudy and quite soupy was the name of the game and while we’ll see many more clouds today…it will stay warm and soupy.

We’re sitting in what’s known as the “warm sector” ahead of a low pressure system dragging a cold front through the Mississippi Valley. This means the air is plenty warm enough and plenty soupy enough to see some heavy showers and thunderstorms during the day today.

With the warm front and low pressure as close as they are, it’s not out of the question that a couple of today’s storms could be strong with all the wind energy aloft but the greatest chance for that would be off to our west, where that area is under a Marginal Risk of severe weather.

Bottom line for today: grab the rain gear, you’ll need it.

Today: Patchy fog possible early, otherwise mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. High near 80º with a slight breeze. Rain ending overnight with lows around 65º.

  • Wake up: ⛈ 67°
  • Lunch hour: ⛈ 78°
  • Afternoon plans: ⛈ 80°
  • Evening time: ⛈ 72°

Here’s where things get good.

The front will move through during the nighttime hours on Tuesday and into early Wednesday ushering in much more comfortable air and get rid of today’s stormy weather.

WPC analysis shows the front moving through sometime tomorrow morning. (WPC)

We’ll still have a few clouds around on the back side of this system and they’ll keep our temperatures pleasant and our humidity levels in check starting tomorrow.

Oh that’s nice. (Pivotal Weather)

Also, since we won’t be socked in with clouds tomorrow night, that’s going to allow our low temperatures to fall back into the much more seasonable mid-50s. All-in-all a much better day than today.

Tomorrow: Improving conditions with partly cloudy skies dominating and a comfortable high near 75º. Even more clearing skies at night lead to a low around 55º.

  • Wake up: ⛅️ 62°
  • Lunch hour: ⛅️ 70°
  • Afternoon plans: ⛅️ 74°
  • Evening time: ⛅️ 65°

And we’re not done with the nice weather for Thursday.

We’ll see the same airmass stay in place for our Thursday but with fewer clouds overhead as that storm system continues its eastward trek. So expect more of the same, comfortably warm temperatures with low humidity and seasonably chilly nights as we head into late week.

Thursday: Much the same as yesterday but with a low more sunshine! Another comfortable high in the mid-70s with nighttime lows falling into the low-to-mid-50s under mostly clear skies.

  • Wake up: 🌤 61°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 72°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 76°
  • Evening time: 🌤 63°

The Bottomline

  • Showers, storms and warm temps will be around today as the summer feel refuses to end.
  • A couple of storms could be strong this afternoon.
  • Slightly cooler weather with partly to mostly sunny skies on the way for late week.
