Soggy Today, Nice Tomorrow, Hot Friday

Today – Rainy – High 66° / Tonight – Isolated Showers – Low 55°

A surface low pressure system is currently spinning across the region. This will lead to numerous showers continuing throughout the day today. The HRRR model thinks we may see a break from the rain this afternoon, when more spotty showers are expected to develop. The dense cloud cover and rain, combined with northwest surface flow will limit temperatures to the mid 60s today. Just kind of seems like a good day to stay inside.

Isolated showers may continue during the overnight. With northwest surface flow, lows should fall back into the mid 50s.

Thursday – Isolated AM Showers – High 70° / Thur Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 53°

Isolated showers may continue into Thursday morning as the surface low and upper level low continue to depart the region. Conditions should stay mostly cloudy for much of the day. Surface and upper level ridging should move into the region toward the end of the afternoon, leading to temperatures right around 70°.

Partly cloudy skies should develop during the evening and overnight hours. Lows will drop into the low to mid 50s.

Friday – Partly Cloudy – High 83° / Fri Night – Isolated Showers/Storms – Low 68°

A ridge will continue to build into Friday. This will provide the region with strong southwest flow in the low levels of the atmosphere. Generally, southwest flow will advect warm, moist air into the region. This is the exact response we should see on Friday. Under partly cloudy skies and southwest winds around 10-15 mph, expect highs to jump into the low to mid 80s! Dew point temperatures will also make a notable jump into the low to mid 60s, making it feel a bit more muggy out there.

A few showers and storms may develop overnight on Friday. Lows will only drop into the upper 60s.

Looking Ahead

That warm, moist air may set the stage for a few strong storms on Saturday, Saturday night, and Sunday. As of now, it appears that a large amount of instability will be realized on Saturday. However, the atmosphere may have a strong enough lid on it to keep storms from forming. Stronger forcing may arrive on Saturday evening and overnight, leading to the development of numerous storms. A few storms may be strong depending on the amount of leftover instability. Think of this as your first “head’s up”. Now you’ll see it coming, unlike this guy.
