More Rain

Forecast Discussion

Hap, hap, happy Sunday, everybody! Y’all are getting a double dose of me this weekend (hope you don’t mind)! The rain looks to end today, even if for just a short while before the next disturbance comes rolling through the area.

The low pressure system over Minnesota will slowly but surely propagate northeast, dragging its associated cold front through our area and off to the east. Before the cold front moves through by this afternoon and early evening, we’ll continue to see showers and thunderstorms. Once the rain ends by this evening, we should have a small break before the next swath of rain hits us.

The weather models aren’t completely in agreement as to the timing of our next big swath of rain. The latest NAM run has the rain coming in Monday afternoon, keeping our Tuesday relatively dry; whereas the other runs of the NAM model had the rain coming Tuesday, keeping Monday fairly dry. As more model runs come in, though, we should be able to make better conclusions as to the timing of the rain. So, make sure to check back with the blog tomorrow for an update!

Hi-Res NAM Simulated Reflectivity via COD Meteorology, latest model run for Monday

As far as the set-up for the rest of the week goes, an upper-level trough will dig in across the Midwest Monday night/Tuesday, allowing an upper-level low to form and move through the Ohio Valley mid-week. High pressure looks to set-in Thursday, with yet another upper-level disturbance moving through, creating rain chances for the weekend. So, basically, rain chances increase through mid-week, decrease at the end of the work-week, and then ramp up again for the weekend.
