How nice was yesterday? I don’t think there will ever be a non-stormy weather day that I like more than I liked yesterday. I like when it is breezy, but not too windy, and temps that are in the upper 70s. That is exactly what happened. And it was sunny, too!

Anyways, you can kiss nice weather like that goodbye as we head into Derby Weekend.

Expect more scenes like this on Friday and Saturday. h/t giphy.com

It sucks, I know, but it is just the way things go. You’re likely heading to work this morning under partly cloudy skies, and don’t think that its that bad outside. Well, clouds are on their way.

Heavy rainfall has already developed across parts of Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, areas that don’t need any more rainfall. This rainfall will likely head to our north, but we are still expected to see clouds increase, and rainfall occur late today and into tonight.

This is all in association with a deep mid and upper level trough, and this will be the primary source of lift for our clouds and precip heading into this weekend. Expect highs to rise into the low and mid 70s this afternoon before rain and storms increase tonight.

The main mid and upper level trough impacting us looks to continue strengthening, and will deepen the surface low as it slows and approaches us tomorrow. We look to be in a weak warm sector, which may help to favor a weak line of showers/storms tomorrow afternoon and evening.

The higher res NAM is expecting a weak line of showers to develop after the main rainfall tomorrow. h/t pivotalweather.com

Clouds should keep temps from warming much in that weak warm sector. I’m expecting highs in the mid 60s tomorrow, with rainfall and clouds dominating the weather.

Then there is Friday. Oaks day! You can be excited if you want to be, but it likely isn’t worth your time at all. The weather looks absolutely terrible.

The mid and upper level system that will impact us the next couple of days reaches maturity as a low, and closes up. It then looks to sit directly over us, with little spokes of energy rotating around it, sparking nasty, cold showers within the clouds.

The 3 km NAM has showers moving through the region most the day on Friday, creating horrible weather conditions. h/t pivotalweather.com

Friday just looks pretty horrible, as temps should only get up into the lower 50s, with some models showing colder temps across the region. If you’re heading to Churchill Downs on Friday for Oaks, be sure to take a raincoat! This should last into Saturday’s Derby festivities, as well, but we will have to see. There is a little bit of uncertainty within that forecast, but right now, its not looking good!
