Nasty Weather to Continue This Weekend

Discussion

Phew, this is some really crummy weather. We haven’t had weather this bad in quite sometime, and that makes sense. I mean, it is late April. If you look out your window, you’d get it confused with late October or something.

It is pretty dang cold, rainy, cloudy, bleh. Just bleh overall. That looks to continue through tomorrow too, making just sure enough that your weekend is bad weather wise!

The pattern is easy to pick out (I’ve been working hard forecasting for WKU the past few days, so I know this forecast like the back of my hand). There is a mid and upper level trough centered across the central Plains, with an enhanced jet streak sitting across our region.

This is helping to force an area of low pressure at the surface, which is helping to force this morning rainfall. This rainfall will move out within the next couple of hours, leaving plenty of clouds behind. This afternoon, along with the passage of the surface low, we area expecting some more rainfall, but this may not be as widespread as it looked to be before.

If you’re heading out to see the WKU Football team play in their Spring Game, be sure to take a poncho, or a rain jacket just in case. The forecast has improved since yesterday, but rain is still expected around kickoff!

Highs today will be lucky to make it into the upper 50s, and I expect them to remain firmly in the mid 50s. Tomorrow looks really interesting from a forecast perspective, at least to me!

The trough in the mid and upper levels that is helping force our rainfall today, looks to close this evening and slowly pass just to our south tomorrow. This always brings with it some interesting weather, and this should be no different.

I am expecting more low clouds across the region, with rainfall developing in the afternoon hours. This will hold temperatures down further, and will just be another in the line of nasty days on the weekend.

Expect highs in the lower 50s during the day on Sunday. By Monday, though, everything will be as it should be.

We will be on a warming trend, with only a few clouds present, as convergence in the mid levels of the atmosphere looks to set up behind the closed low that moves through tomorrow. Temps will moderate into the mid and upper 60s, and we’ll have a day without rain!
