Yesterday was a very nice day across the region. Sunny skies in the morning hours gave way to some high clouds in the afternoon. Southerly surface winds help push temperatures in the mid 70s. Rainfall picked up overnight as showers and thunderstorms moved into the region. In total, we picked up around half an inch of rain. I hope you enjoyed the warm weather, because old man winter looks to make a return this weekend.

Discussion
Overall a nice day is on tap for today. The cold front that moved through this morning will bring dry air to region, allowing for sunny skies the rest of the day. Temperatures will be much cooler compared to yesterday as we expect highs only in the upper 40s and low 50s. Winds will be gusty out of the north, making it feel a bit cooler than it actually is.
A Freeze Warning is in effect across the region for tonight. Despite mostly cloudy skies, the temperature will likely drop into the upper 20s. This will kill all sensitive plants that may have budded too early!
The attention then turns to Saturday for a complicated winter weather setup. Precipitation should slide into the region from the northwest during the morning hours. I expect this to initially be all snow. However, rain may mix in at times as surface temperatures warm. A break in the precipitation seems plausible during the afternoon hours. However, more snow should set in during the evening and overnight hours.
Overall, current thinking is that minor accumulations will be possible. Area-wide I expect a dusting to 1″ is possible, with a better chance of higher totals the farther south you are. Some of the models are suggesting a few heavy bands of precipitation form. If this does unfold, expect some locally higher amounts.
Sunday will bring higher pressure into the region. Temperatures should rebound nicely into the mid 40s under mostly sunny skies. This should help melt the snow rather quickly. Sunday night lows will fall back into the mid 20s. It doesn’t look like winter is quite done with us yet.
