Winter Back for a Late Season Run

Yesterday’s Weather

Friday was a return to reality after much above average conditions during the day on Thursday. Temperatures were seasonal and it was sunny, a great way to end the workweek. Too bad it won’t last. Winter is coming…back.

Forecast Discussion

March is here and throughout the nation, basketball arenas are heating up with the thrill of March Madness but in the atmosphere, it seems the exact opposite is happening. Winter is a bubble team and it’s ready for it’s late season run through the conference tournament, hoping for that automatic bid to the big dance. …yeah, the weather gets kind of wild today.

We’ve been following this chance for snow for nearly a week and it’s finally about to make itself known and at this point, it looks like the further south you are, the better chance you have of seeing some snow.

Yeah, something like this. (Giphy)

But seriously, this doesn’t look like a big deal at all. We’ll have temperatures during the day today well above freezing, so sticking doesn’t looks to be a big issue on the roads

Honestly, this system has been running weaker and weaker with every run and it doesn’t look impressive at all for us. In fact, the HRRR has most of the precipitation staying south of here during the day.

Does that mean we’ll see nothing? Not at all, I think we’ll see scattered rain and snow showers but nothing that should be anything to be concerned about.

After we get this system through the area today, things look great for our day on Sunday, we warm back up to near seasonal averages under bright sunny skies to round out the weekend.

Sunday is really the pick of the weekend because another system looks to throw mainly rain at our area to start the workweek on Monday.

Sunday, essentially. (Giphy/BYUtv)

I say mostly rain because there will be a few points, especially early and late, where temperatures may get low enough to see a little frozen precipitation mix in but again, it shouldn’t be a big deal at all.

Today’s Key Points

  • There is a chance for a bit of rain and snow today, but nothing too major.
  • Don’t forget to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed! Yep, it’s already time to spring forward already! I’ll miss easy rounding between GMT and CT but all good things must come to an end. It’s also a good idea to change the batteries in your smoke detector and NOAA Weather Radio to make sure they’re in good working order.
  • Sunday looks warmer and generally fantastic.
  • More rain (and maybe a touch of frozen precip?) look to move into the area for Monday.
