Forecast Discussion

Yes, I know you’ve heard it, but I’ll say it anyway: Spring Fever is in full effect! This forecast is honestly looking more and more like spring rather than winter. Will this be known as the year without winter? I believe so, because winter is simply running out of time.

Patchy fog is evident this morning via the White Squirrel Weather skycam, so allow yourself some extra time if you’re heading out to an early service this morning. Fog should decrease by 8 AM.

A strong ridge will move into the region today helping to clear out those cloudy skies. This will also help temperatures rebound into the upper 60s, to maybe even low 70s in some places! Clouds may build into the region overnight as we approach the backside of the ridge. Overnight lows will drop into the mid 40s.

Southwest flow will ramp up on Monday. This will lead to some clearing of the skies, but we should remain partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs will jump into the low 70s thanks to that southwest flow. Clouds will increase overnight as lows drop into the low to mid 50s. I’m beginning to wonder if “winter” is just “spring” in a bad disguise?

A sharp shortwave trough will move into the region on Tuesday. This will lead to increasing clouds and showers in the afternoon. With rain and clouds around, highs should top out in the upper 60s. Showers will increase overnight through midnight, diminishing after that. Lows will likely stay mild, in the mid to upper 50s.

Extended Outlook

Attention in the long term will begin to shift to a storm system on Friday. According to longer range models, this low pressure system may bring the potential for some storms to the region on Friday afternoon and evening. If the forecast pans out some storms may be strong to severe. This is still several days away and things can and will change. However, it’s something to keep an eye on. The Storm Prediction Center has already highlighted portions of the Ohio Valley in a severe weather risk on Friday. This will likely be shifted around as we draw closer to Friday.
