Yesterday’s Weather

Yesterday was, yeah, you guessed it, fairly gloomy again. It was cloudy most of the day, and definitely didn’t get as warm as I expected it to when I forecast for the day on Saturday. However, the sun did in fact make an appearance yesterday. We were in rare territory with it, but even I saw it. It was amazing.

Discussion

Ahhh, how nice is it to know that we are expecting even more rainfall!? It is ridiculous how many days in a row it feels like we have either seen clouds or rainfall, but it feels like a lot.

The pattern is very active right now, and in addition to the rainfall we have seen lately, we have been seeing temperatures go up and down and up and down. It does get a bit frustrating after a little bit. However, that is weather, and that is why this is all really interesting.

Today, we have a shortwave trough moving to our north, and this will be propagating eastward throughout the day. This has forced a surface low to develop, and is dragging a cold front to its southwest. This is marching towards us as I write this, with much cooler air behind it.

Most of the rainfall associated with this system fell last night, and the majority of the dynamics for rainfall will be to our east and south throughout the day. However, I still expect an isolated, light shower or two as we head through the day. Temps will be dropping all day, as well, as the high will likely be what we’re sitting at right now (62°F).

Skies will gradually clear to an extent overnight, as colder air filters into the region. This effectively means that tomorrow is likely the coolest day of the timeframe. Partly sunny skies will dominate the weather tomorrow morning and early afternoon, but clouds should increase heading into tomorrow night as another shortwave tough begins to approach.

This will lead to elevated lows on Wednesday night, and clouds to fully encompass the region by that point. By Thursday morning, we’ll be tracking the next area of extended rainfall to affect our region. This looks like it could be a nice soaker, as it will be associated with a nice plume of moisture into the region.

Rainfall should increase in coverage and intensity as we head towards the noon hour on Thursday, with temperatures remaining in the 50s during the day. That is an interesting thing, actually, because model guidance forecasts temps to rise slowly throughout the day and into the night on Thursday, with our high being hit at 11:59 PM Thursday night, and our overnight low being at midnight.

Yeah, I know, crazy. Anyways, we are looking at a widespread 0.50″-1.50″ of rainfall Thursday and Thursday night. I would say that this would be beneficial to the region, but we are completely removed from any sort of drought at this point.

After Thursday? It looks just as active. Two major, deep troughs look to propagate eastward in the Saturday-Wednesday timeframe. Both look to have strong surface lows associated with them, and this should create plenty more rainfall chances.
