Forecast Discussion

Well, I hope you like cold. That’s right, after our first bout with winter, Bowling Green Weather is going to get a whole lot chillier.

The system that cleared out grocery stores throughout the entire region has finally moved on and taken the snow chances with it. A system passing by to our south will scoot by far enough away to keep most of the snow at bay but will definitely throw some clouds our way. Little to no additional accumulation is expected with nothing we see today.

Once that system passes by, our good old friend high pressure enters the picture. While the pressure may be high, this means our temperatures will go low.

Thanks to where that high is located, that’s going to keep our winds around from the north and northwest, where there is even more cold weather locked up. Add that together with a small snowpack and you’ve got the recipe for bitterly cold temperatures for southern Kentucky.

I think that with the sunshine we can at least meet that 20ºF mark and if we top it, it won’t be by much. We’ll keep those clouds away once again on Saturday night, allowing us to drop down into the lower teens once again.

The high pressure will move a little farther away from the region on Sunday, so highs won’t be nearly as brutal…even the lows will inch back towards 20ºF. And they only go up from here as we head into the new work week.
