A longwave trough with an embedded shortwave will bring snow to portions of Indiana and Kentucky today. Because of this, a winter weather advisory has been issued for our region starting from today at 12:00 pm to tomorrow at 6:00 am. It looks as though this event will present itself in 2 waves, with the first wave occurring this morning and the second wave occurring this afternoon. The first wave will impact northern Kentucky and portions of Indiana, while the second wave will impact the entire region, including Bowling Green.

Our area looks to see snow during the afternoon and evening hours with snow totals amounting to just a dusting with some localized spots seeing 2 inches. The heavier accumulations will stay to the north of us. The timing of this event is probably the worst part, as it looks to kick into gear during school pick-up and prime rush-hour traffic times. There may be slick spots on the roads during the afternoon and evening hours, so allow extra time for travel.

As for Friday and Saturday, high pressure will settle in bringing cold air advection resulting in colder temperatures. For Friday, depending on the snow pack and wind speeds, our temperatures may struggle to make it out of the low 20’s. On the plus side, though, we will see the sun again! Saturday will be a hair warmer than Friday, but I’d definitely try to find a heater to stuff into your parka if you leave the house either day.

Main points
- Snow is coming (yay!)
- We will likely see accumulations of less than 1 ” with some localized areas seeing 2″
- Travel will be negatively impacted (school pick-up and prime rush-hour)
- Friday and Saturday will be very cold – stuff a space heater inside your jacket
