WxRecap: The June 2016 Summary

How are we already 6 full months through the year?? That is really, really bizarre to me.

I have no idea where I found this, but it is my favorite meme.

I feel like the past couple of years have just gone by waaaaaay too fast. Way too fast. I feel like sometimes time is just flowing by me and there isn’t anything I can do about it, and from all accounts, it just gets worse. That isn’t what I am here to do; I am here to review June!

Lets begin with some initial stats.

We were 2.8°F above normal for the month, with below average precipitation. We actually saw a 1.68″ deficit on precipitation this month, which has brought us to being over 3″ below normal for precip on the year.

The month started off incredibly boring, with the first week of the month being fairly unbearable to deal with. It was just sunny, and really hot and boring and crazy. It just was horrible to forecast for sunshine and heat everyday.

However, weeks 2-4 were pretty insane. The synoptic pattern became much more meridional, with troughs swinging through the region weekly, and giving us storms a couple days every week.

With consistent troughs comes quick cool downs and severe weather events. The month was filled with thunderstorms, but only three real days with organized severe weather.

Even while this was a bit low, it made everything significantly more interesting than it otherwise would have been. Even within a pattern like this, though, we still saw the below average rainfall for the month. I guess it could have been worse during the month though, right?
